Lead Paint Issues

While the Housing Authority has always done a visual inspection of paint surfaces in
Section 8 units, there is a new regulation that went into effect in Pennsylvania on March 15,
2001. When the Housing Authority inspector goes to inspect a unit, there should be no
chipping or peeling paint on any surfaces in the unit as well as outside the unit.
If the family that lives in the unit or is proposing to move into the unit has any children under
six and the unit was built prior to January 1, 1978, any deteriorated paint surfaces will
require testing for the presence of lead.

All owners should visually inspect their units and correct any chipping or peeling
paint prior to the inspection that is scheduled by the Housing Authority.
