WHAT ARE THE STEPS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN HOUSING WITH WCHA?
THERE ARE BASICALLY 3 STEPS!
1. THE PRE-APPLICATION PHASE (RECEIVING LANDLORD, CREDIT, AND CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION)
2. THE FULL APPLICATION OR INTERVIEW PHASE (VERIFYING INCOME, COLLECTING PERSONAL DOCUMENTATION, AND
PLACEMENT ON THE WAITING LIST)
3. THE OFFER PHASE (GIVING LOCATION, COLLECTING OR UPDATING DOCUMENTS AND CALCULATION OF RENT)

ONCE I’M PUT ON THE WAITING LIST HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET A MOVE IN DATE?
THE LENGTH OF TIME TO RECEIVE HOUSING VARIES BY LOCATION AND CAN RANGE FROM 2 WEEKS TO 2 YEARS
WHAT CAN CAUSE MY APPLICATION TO BE WITHDRAWN OR DENIED?
CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES UNPAID RENT OVER INCOME LIMITS

I APPLIED FOR HOUSING AND WAS DENIED WHAT CAN I DO?
THERE IS AN APPEAL PROCESS IN WHICH YOU CAN PRESENT INFORMATION TO REVERSE THE DECISION
IF I AM OFFERED HOUSING CAN I BRING MY PET?
YES, BUT THERE IS PAPERWORK REQUIRED FOR APPROVAL
IF OFFERED HOUSING HOW MUCH WILL I BE REQUIRED TO PAY?
THERE IS A $100.00 SECURITY DEPOSIT AND 30% INCOME FOR MONTHLY RENTAL

WILL UTILITIES BE INCLUDED WITH MY RENT?
UTILITIES MAY BE PROVIDED BY WCHA OR BY THE UTILITY COMPANY DEPENDING UPON WHERE YOU LIVE. THOSE THAT
PAY UTILITIES DIRECTLY WILL RECEIVE A UTILITY ALLOWANCE AS PART OF THEIR RENT CALCULATION FOR WATER, GAS
AND ELECTRIC.
WILL I BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS?
NO, NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ITEMS WILL BE FIXED BY WCHA STAFF
CAN I SMOKE INSIDE MY UNIT?
NO, WCHA PROHIBITS SMOKING IN ANY INDOOR AREAS, INCLUDING THE BALCONIES, OF ALL HOUSING AUTHORITY
OWNED OR MANAGED PROPERTIES. SMOKING IS ALLOWED IN OUTSIDE DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS ONLY.
DO THE HOUSING UNITS COME FURNISHED?

WILL I BE REQUIRED TO HAVE MY OWN APPLIANCES?
NO, WCHA UNITS HAVE A REFRIGERATOR AND OVEN RANGE
IF I HAVE A VEHICLE WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
PARKING IS ONLY FOR AUTHORIZED VEHICLES DISPLAYING A WCHA AUTHORIZATION STICKER
